Udupi : Umesh Acharya (28), who killed his younger brother Prakash Acharya (32) was arrested by the Malpe police on Tuesday, April 21.
It is said, Prakash Acharya was facing murder charges in Karkala and Malpe police station limits in the murder of Sadashiva Acharya which took place in 2002.
The deceased Prakash Acharya had started constructing a separate house for himself near his current residence at Moodubettu and he used to demand for money from his mother and younger brother Umesh. On Sunday night, Prakash is again said to have demanded money, which triggered a clash between the brothers.
During the course of the fight Umesh, in a fit of anger hit Prakash’s head with a wood club. Prakash started bleeding profusely and after some first aid from his mother and wife, he is said to have gone to sleep.
On Monday morning, he did not wake up, following which he was rushed to the hospital where he was declared brought dead.
The accused Umesh is an autorickshaw driver and a mason. On learning about the death, Umesh had gone absconding.
It is said that Umesh was hiding in one of his friends’ house nearby. Locals, who spotted him informed the police about his wherebouts.
A case has been registered in Malpe police station.
