Udupi : The new KSRTC bus depot of Udupi was inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister R Ashok on November 23, Friday. The depot comes under the Mangalore Division of the KSRTC. The Deputy CM also inaugurated four new KSRTC bus services to Mysore. The Regional Transport Office of Udupi was also declared open at Rajathadri.
Speaking to reporters on the occasion, Ashok said the government intends to have KSRTC bus depots in all the districts and also pointed out that KSRTC offers 78 per cent concession in fares to students.
He also revealed the government plans of providing better security to the coastal belt.
On the Sowjanya rape and murder case, he said the government has already handed over the case to the CID which is likely to submit its report within two months.
Speaking at a function held in connection with the inaugural of the new RTO office he said the new building has been constructed at a cost of Rs 6.42 crores. Smart card system has been incorporated in the new RTO office, he said.
Pointing out that the district had 2,32000 vehicles, he urged people to use public transportation system as it would help in reducing environmental pollution.
