Mangalore: DK District Kannada Sahitya Parishath in association with Kalkura Prathistana organized ‘Ugadi Sahitya Sambrama’ at Sharadha Vidyalaya Hall on April 15, Friday.
Capt Ganesh Karnik, MLC inaugurated the event and said that the Bisu festival is celebrated the people among the city. It is the New Year according to the Hindu Calendar.
Today the Indian tradition, value and culture are being disappearing. Hence there is a responsibility of taking the Ugadi messages to the future generation and continue further, he said.
Harikrishna Punaroor, former president of Kannada Sahitya Parishath offered Ugadi Kani. Vidhwan Derebail Vittaladasa Tantri read the new Panchanga or the Indian Calendar. Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, president of Kannada Sahitya Parishath presided over the event. M B Puranik was the chief guest on the occasion.
The UGadi award was conferred on Haladi Damodhar Shenoy, senior artist. Prathibha Puraskar conferd n Dr Roopashri Kalbhavi. Dampathi Puraskar on Vedamuthy Balakrishna Bhat and Shakunthala Bhat.
Manjula Shetty welcomed the gathering and compered the programme.
