Mangaluru : Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim  assured of State Government reimbursing expenses for treatment of persons injured in the clashes on Friday night in Ulaibettu and those who were injured following disturbances in neighbouring areas on the following days.

Mr. Ibrahim made this assurance after meeting the injured persons undergoing treatment at three different hospitals on Tuesday.

As many as nine persons are undergoing treatment at the S.C.S. Hospital in Balmatta here. One among the injured told Mr. Ibrahim that the injury he sustained has incapacitated him for the next few weeks. He expressed his anguish over the difficulty in earning livelihood following injury.

Some injured complained against the local police not responding on time and prevent escalation of clashes on Friday night. There were complaints against public representatives’ lack of concern for their injury.

Mr. Ibrahim met three persons admitted in Highland Hospital, followed by one admitted in Tejaswini Hospital and lastly the two persons in the A.J. Shetty Hospital. Mr. Ibrahim told reporters that the government will bear the entire treatment expenses of the injured.

Meanwhile, leaders from various communities and organisations have been called for a Peace Committee meeting to be held at the office of Police Commissioner on Tuesday evening. Mr. Ibrahim and Inspector General of Police (Western Range) Amrith Paul will be attending the meeting.

Police Commissioner R. Hithendra has changed the Inspector of Mangaluru Rural police station, who was accused of responding late to clashes in Ulaibettu on Friday. Assistant Commissioner of Police Subramanya will be inquiring over alleged lapses of police inspector on Friday night.

Stray incidents of trouble continued on Tuesday. An autorickshaw parked by the roadside in Padavinangady was burnt in fire late on Monday night.
