Mangalore: All is not well with Ullal Dargah Management and there are doubts over its huge income going astray. Clashes could not be avoided between groups wanting to take over management or over selection of office-bearers in a religious places, reminding us of Delhi Sikhs and Gurudwaras.
On Friday, a member of Ullal Town Municipal council, Abdul Rasheed was hospitalized with injuries in a clash between two groups of hand-to-hand fighters in Dargah, where peace should normally prevail.
A meeting had been called on Friday to nominate new office-bearers to the Managing Committee. Monu had retired in 2 months after re-election. 5 members were selected but committee was dissolved in view of internal differences. These office-bearers have a five-year term of office. The sacked members were opposed b Rasheed, as illegitimate. U.S. Hamza, who presided, intervened to allow them to sit on the dais.
A quarrel erupted when an accused (Ashraf) began to read the resolution electing them. Rasheed was attacked with Weapons for questioning the procedure. His face being injured, he is in a private hospital at Thokkottu.
The Ullal police rushed to the spot and cleared the mob. The 5 SSF men were booked for unruly scenes.
