Mangalore: Ullal police have arrested five notorious criminals who made a plot to rob travellers on national highway 66 (NH66) and on airport road. The gang was arrested at Kallapu near Thokkottu in an operation led by Ullal police station inspector Gopikrishna on Sunday.

The arrested have been identified as Puttur based Ravikumar (24), Manjeshwar residents Khaleel yane Kallu (27), Jabeer (24), Rajesh K (30) and Bangra Manjeshwar native Azeem yane Mohammed Azheem (23). All accused have booked under number of criminal offences earlier.

The gang reportedly made a plot to rob the travellers plying from Kerala to Mangaluru city on NH 66 and the cars which move towards Mangaluru International airport at late night. The police seized deadly weapons from the accused including talwars, iron rods, chilli powder, knives and a Maruti Swift car.
