Ullal : Tension prevailed for a while in Ullal on Friday night after a series of stone-throwing incidents followed an alleged sexual harassment of a four year old girl.
The police said the girl, a LKG student in a school near Thokkottu, had discomfort while passing urine in the house in the evening.
The child’s mother inquired the child and then went to the school. She and her family members caught hold of Madhukar Shetty (42), the driver of van in which the daughter was dropped from the school around noon.
Suspecting him of molesting the child, family members rained him with blows and handed him over to the Ullal police.
A team of policemen rushed to a private hospital where the child had been admitted to take the statement of child and her parents. A large number of people gathered outside the hospital and started pelting stones at a private bus and then at the policemen. The police had to lathicharge the mob. Another group gathered at the Ullal police station. Stones were thrown on the car of Deputy Commissioner of Police K. Santosh Babu, who was on patrolling duty.
Additional forces have been mobalised in Ullal. The police have arrested Madhukar Shetty for offence under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
