Udupi : The last rites of teacher Vilasini Shettigar was held with presence of her son under world don Bannanje Raja at a crematorium near Malpe beach on Monday, August 27.
Vilasini Shettigar (78) mother of Bannanje Raja’s breathed her last at her home on Saturday August 25.
As he get special permission from court Bannanje Raja arrived to Udupi from Belgaum jail on Sunday stayed at city police station.
He performed his mothers last rites at a crematorium near Malpe beach at 11 am. His wife, aides, supporters and friends were present.
The body of Vilasini Shettigar was brought to her house at Kalmady from the District Hospital Mortuary. Later the body was taken in a vehicle procession from her house to the Cremation center Malpe.
DySP Kumaraswamy, Manipal circle inspector Sudarshan, Brahmavar circle inspector Shrikanth Nayak, Malpe SI Madhu had given security during Raja’s visit.
Advocate Shantaram Shetty filed a petition in the residence of District and Sessions Judge Venkatesh T Nayaka to allow Bannanje Raja to participate in the funeral of his mother. The judge granted permission with security to Bannanje Raja to attend to his mother’s funeral.
The Udupi police brought Bannanje Raja to Udupi Town Police station amid tight police security on Sunday night from Hindalga jail in Belgaum.
After the cremation, he was taken to his house where he is allowed to remain till 6:00 pm. Later, he will be brought back to the Udupi Town Police station and taken to Belagavi prison on Tuesday, August 28 morning.
