Udupi : Some unidentified miscreants hurled  stones at the Polipu mosque at Kaup in the early hours of May 10, Friday. The glass panes of the minaret of the  mosque were damaged due to stoning.

The Maulvi and some other members of the community  who were inside the mosque when the incident took place at around 1.30 am  informed the police.  Karkala DySP Devaraju, Shivananda Valekar, Kaup Circle Inspector and other police officials rushed to the spot and took control of the situation and ensured that no other untoward incident took place.

A large crowd gathered in front of the mosque in the morning and there were many who were complaining that the inaction of the police to arrest the culprits in earlier cases of attempt to disrupt peace, had led to this incident.

Even Vinaykumar Sorake, the MLA-elect of Kaup visited the place and urged the police authorities to undertake a thorough probe and track down the culprits. He also urged the locals to maintain peace.
