Udupi : A one-year-and-three-month-old girl was abducted from her house at Kumtiberu in Yadamogge village, in Shankarnarayana police station limits in Kundapur taluk, early on Thursday.
The child has been identified as Sanvika.
According to Rekha, her mother, she was sleeping with Sanvika, and her five-year-old son, Satvik, in the house. An unidentified person, who had allegedly put on a mask, entered their house at 4.30 a.m. and abducted Sanvika. The person ran towards Kubja river near their house and jumped into it.
Though she chased him, he managed to escape, Ms. Rekha said.
There was no one else in the house. Her husband, Santosh Naik, who works as a security guard was on his night shift.
Nisha James, Superintendent of Police, visited the village.
Ms. James said that the child was wearing an ash-coloured top and had a black thread around her neck and waist, as well as a silver waistband.
The public have been requested to pass on any information on the abducted child to the local police or the Udupi Police Control Room on telephone numbers: +91 820 252 6444 or +91 820 252 6709 or 9480805422 (DSP, Kundapur) or 9480805456 (Sub-Inspector, Shankarnarayana police station. A special team had been formed under the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Kundapur Sub-division, to trace the child, she said.
A case had been registered under Sections 448, 363, of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Shankarnarayana police station.
Meanwhile, the personnel of Fire and Emergency Services conducted search operations in the river.
