Mangaluru: The Union Government is pursuing a step motherly attitude towards the state government on various issues including disbursal of drought relief, alleged AICC Spokesperson and Communications Cell Convenor Priyanka Chaturvedi.
Addressing reporters At the Congress office here on March 29, Thursday she said though Karnataka faced one of the worst droughts in 2017, the Centre instead of ensuring uniformity with other states in providing drought relief, resorted to a biased approach.
If Maharashtra got Rs 8195 crores, Gujarat and Rajasthan got Rs 3,895 crores and Rs 2153 crores respectively. But Karnataka was given just Rs 1435.95 crores, she said.
She further alleged that the BJP was staking the peace of the nation for its own growth. Instead of laying emphasis on development, the party was more interested in divide and rule policy and filling hatred in the minds of the people, she further added.
She also questioned why PM Modi did not intervene in the Mahadayi row despite several letters by the Chief Minister.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President Amit Shah are answerable as to why the Centre is neglecting Karnataka which is contributing a great deal by way of taxes, she said.
Pointing out to the co-operative bank farm loan waiver announced by the Karnataka Government, she wanted to know why the Centre did not respond when the state sought waiver of farm loans of nationalised banks too.
DCC Chief Harish Kumar, Mayor Bhasker Moily, MLC Ivan D’Souza, Mahila Congress President Shalet Pinto and others were present.
