Bangalore : Speaking at a progress review meeting held periodically in Vikasa Soudha on Friday, Union Health minister Gulam Nabi Azad told the officials of health ministry in the state that it was necessary for MBBS doctors to serve in rural areas of India in primary health centers or Govt. Hospitals alike, and a shortened course in medical science and hospital treatment is on cards to felicitate rural students to take up a medical carrier in near future compulsorily.
The initiative for the service of rural doctors was taken by the congress govt. in the sate itself, Azad said. If the rural dispensaries started working regularly to meet the needs of the people they will be help full to farmers and workers alike, it would reduce child mortality at birth in large numbers and deaths of women during maternity or due to seasonal deceases that harm their health. It was quit necessary to improve the health of rural citizen with a health card or ESI facilities only when rural doctors from village homes are made available in plenty.
