Udupi: A Unique Identification Card is being issued by Govt. of India’s Unique Identification Authority to recognize an Indian national by a 12-digit new card system,
Authority to recognize an Indian national by a 12-digit new card system, good for voting, PDS and other needs of daily life.
The cards are distributed through Post offices nationwide under agreement and it is named, “Aadhar” (main support).
In Karnataka, Tumkur and Mysore districts have already started through post offices, issue of the Unique ‘Aadhar’ cards. A centre had been also started in Udupi HPO on Tuesday, July 19 this year, to distribute ‘Aadhar’ cards locally. The process will continue for the next 3 years.
Udupi DC, Dr. T.M.Reju issued the debut card to Lions Governor Jayakar Shetty, Indrali who was the first to register for ‘Aadhar’. Udupi Head Postmaster, Rajashekhar Bhat explained the process by which an individual is recognized immediately.
Under the scheme, cards will be issued free of charge and anyone above 5 years of age can obtain the card with photo and details of stay, and 10 finger-prints, telephone number and e-mail address.
The card is not mandatory now, but comes in useful and gains prominence in all walks of life. Photographs are taken on the spot, and the card will be yours in 45 days through speed Post delivered at home to the individual Bhat informed on Wednesday, July20.
