Bantwal : A unique protest by planting plantain trees on potholes of the Kuddupadavu-Balashettymoole road was held by villagers who were fed up with the bad state of the road.
They say the road which was asphalted in 2009 by spending several lakhs of rupees under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana turned bad within four years and alleged the works undertaken by the contract was sub-standard.
Even the plea to get the road repaired had fallen on deaf ears, the villagers said.
As part of the protest, an autorickshaw landed on the pothole and then the villagers removed it signifying the problems posed by the bad road.
They urged the administration to direct the contractor to re-asphalt the road and not to clear his bill until then.
