Mangalore : Doctors at Unity Hospital in Mangalore have been successful in curing an 18 year old girl of a congenital defect in the heart without a surgery. The three hour long procedure was successful on October 14.
The girl had been diagnosed with pain in both legs and uncontrolled blood pressure which was the result of severe coarctation of the aorta, a constriction of the major artery from the heart.
The procedure was so conducted without leaving any scar in the body of the young girl. The team of specialists was led by Dr Paul Varghese and Dr Chethana Anand who led the anesthetic team.
The girl’s blood pressure returned to normal after the procedure and she was discharged from hospital on the third day.
This procedure was performed as a part of a camp for patients with birth defects of the heart. The treatment which actually costed Rs 1.2 lakhs was offered at a subsidized rate.
