Mangalore : Unity Health Complex has performed the first Key Hole Liver Surgery recently said Dr Ashfaque Mohammed.
Addressing the media at the press meet held at Press Club on June 14, Friday, he said that a 72 year old female weighing 90 kgs, on routine ultrasound abdomen was diagnosed to have liver cancer. On complete workup it was found to be localized on one side of the liver. Since she was overweight and known patient of chronic liver disease with early sign of failure she was a very high risk for open surgery. A keyhole surgery was ideal. The key-hole liver surgery was well executed and the patient is now cured of her disease.
Dr Jalaluddin Akbar, oncosurgeon said that he had done the first open liver cancer surgery in 2002 at Mangalore, has done the same surgery at Unity Health Complex, through a Key Hole. The minimal invasive surgery of Unity Hospital, Mangalore is headed by Dr Ashfaque Mohammed who has more than a decade long experience and expertise in laparospic surgeries.
