Mangalore: Demanding the celebration of Swami Vivekananda’s 150th birthday event, University college (Hampankatta) students kept out of classes on February 2. They wanted well-known scholar and actor, Chakravarthy Soolibele who does an excellent Vivekananda role on stage, to be their resource person.
They asked why the Principal refused permission, while allowing some teachers to back naxalism and Communalism on college premises.
Principal had denied prior permission for Jaago Bharat programme, due on February 6 in a catapult to his earlier consent. The principal had added insult to injury, when other institutions were observing the 150th birthday of the monk.
Principal Laxminarayana Bhat, when contacted, denied all charges as imaginary. The college permitted the swami’s birthday event, but did not allow Jaago Bharat programme to disturb local peace, Bhat said. He has appealed to all students to attend classes. He made it clear that the same resource person was not required every time.
