Udupi: “On November 10 public opinion will be gathered in a programme regarding the proposed 1600MW extension of UPCL, which will destroy the lives of people,” said UPCL Horata Samiti President Vijay Kumar Hegde.
Addressing the press personnel on Tuesday at Press Club he said that the samiti will meet the committee which is appointed to report the environmental impacts of the extension unit and will explain the consequences of the UPCL extension in Yellur and surrounding areas.
“UPCL doesn’t have license from the gram panchayat to operate the power plant and they have thrown the laws of the land to wind. The company has approached the court asking relaxation in the temporary license which was granted to them,” he said.
He further said that the district administration is supporting the company and Deputy Commissioner is neglecting the memorandum submitted by the samiti and he is silent on this matter.
Janani Divakar Shetty, Shashidhar Shetty and others were present.
