Manipal : Veteran Kannada writer and Jnanpeeth Award winner Prof. UR Ananthamurthy will be conferred the Basheer Puraskaram by the Manipal Centre for Philosophy and Humanities of Manipal University. The function will be held at the Dr TMA Pai Planetarium Complex on September 27.

The Award has been instituted by  Pravasi Doha, a socio-cultural  literary and charitable organisation of Keralites in Qatar, in memory of  Vaikom Muhammad Basheer, a renowned writer.

Dr K Ramnarayan, Vice Chancellor, Manipal University will preside over the function.M T Vasudevan Nair, Malayalam Jnanpith award winner, and TJS George, veteran journalist will be the guests.

A short national award winning documentary on Vaikom Muhammad Basheer will be screened on the occasion.
