Mangalore : The Urwa police arrested a man, during his attempt to sell an antique thing like Nataraja idol made of panchaloha, 6 gold coins and 2 swords worth Rs. 3 crore near Hat Hill on April 7, Thursday.
The team of officials under the guidance of Sub Inspector Suresh, acting on a tip successfully arrested Dr. Gadiyar and seized the antiques items.
According to the police the confiscated items are of great historical importance. The Nataraja idol weighed 180kgs and the coins comprised of royal seal.
Giving the details of the antiques, Dr. Gadiyar said that he had purchased the Nataraja idol in 1974 during a sale cum exhibition in Hotel Navarathna, while the sword was purchased by his grandfather in Mysore in 1954 and that the coins belong to his ancestors.
The police is investigating the matter to reveal the truth on the given statement.
