Mangaluru : Writer Kanaradi Vadiraja Bhat, playwright M.K. Seetharama Kulal and film maker Ram Shetty will be presented the annual honorary award of Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy for 2014 at a function at Tulu Bhawan, Urwa Stores, here on Saturday.
Minister for Forests, Environment and Ecology B Ramanath Rai will present the award at 3 p.m. B.A. Vivek Rai, former Vice-Chancellor of Kannada University, Hampi, and Karnataka State Open University, Mysuru, will deliver the keynote address. D. Veerendra Heggade, dharmadhikari, Dharmasthala, will be present on the occasion.
The honorary award comprises Rs. 10,000, a certificate and a memento.
A book titled Paadana written by Sharada A Anchan will be presented with the academy’s book award for 2014. It comprise Rs. 5,000 cash, a certificate and a memento. Ms. Anchan lived in Mumbai. She wrote in Kannada and Tulu.
Mr. Bhat (aged 64) is the retired Kannada professor and principal of Sharada College, Basuru, Udupi. Jokle Padokulu I and Jokle Padokulu II, Jeevana Paadana, Mage Barau Kalte were some of his main works. He has collected Tulu folk stories.
Mr. Kulal (75), who is a former president of the academy, has written 69 dramas in Kannada and Tulu.
His drama Mannda Magal Abbakka was popular. His first drama was Dasi Putra . He wrote about 350 songs both for Tulu and Kannada dramas.
Mr. Shetty, 64, as a stunt master has acted in about 700 cinemas in various languages including Hindi, Tulu.
