Mangalore: Some members of VHP and Bajrang Dal protested on Monday, Feb.13 against any celebration of Valentine’s Day as Lovers’ day on Tuesday among Hindus, influenced by Christian traditions in what the Christians now call the Rome of the East (earlier it was Goa), and they called for the closure of pubs on Valentine’s day on Tuesday, Feb 14 at 11PM.
Valentine ’s Day was a western concept that was harmful to Hindus in India, as it erodes true Indian culture where love begins after marriage, among pairs.
The two RSS outfits urged the DK district administration to ensure that youths in Mangalore did not indulge in “Hippy” culture, with Vulgar sex actions.
It anything offensive took place on Feb.14, they would take law into their own hands, if DCO fails, the VHP/BD threatened.
The offenders would be handed over to the police to go behind bars. For the drinking/dancing parties they fixed 11PM on Tuesday, and asked the pubs or disco the guise to be closed by 11PM.
The bar owners have been duly worried not to hold Valentines Day specials on Tuesday.
