Mangalore : The members of DYFI in association with SFI and the JMS staged a protest in front of the SP office on May 8, Thursday condemning the rape of a minor Muslim girl from Kolpe, Idkidu Urimajalu and the failure of police department in arresting the accused.
Addressing the protestors, DYFI state vice-president Muneer Katipalla said that he is not holding protest to politicize the issue like the BJP leaders, but fight for justice and urge the concerned authorities to take stringent action against the accused.
He also said that due to the political pressure, the police department is taking the case lightly, hence even after 3 weeks the police have failed to take action them.
Muneer also said that during the Manipal gang rape case, Home Minister K J George visited the victim since she was from his home town Kerala, but when the victim in the present case is from a minority community; party has neglected the case and victim. He questioned District In-charge minister Ramanatha Rai and the other representatives of Congress ruling party in regard to woman atrocities state and nation.
Later they submitted a memorandum to Superintendent of police Dr Sharanappa through DYSP HD Mendonza.
Recalling the case, it is said that three accused have been identified as Bashir a resident of Radhukatte, in Vital Padnoor village, Bakuta a resident of Bobbekeri and Jabbar, resident of Karyadi. Allegedly the married men had raped the girl with the false promise of getting married to her.
