Mangalore : The protest launched by Jaago Mangalore Association against bad roads in various parts of the city, got huge public support on March 23 Friday.
The organizations like DK Bus Operators Association, the DK Autorickshaw Drivers’ Union, the Kanara Bus Owners’ Association, Quarry and Stone Crushers’ Association, Lions Club, Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Jaycees, and Karnataka Rakshana Vedike and Malnad Youth Association supported the protests.
During the protests, they expressed their dissatisfaction over bad maintenance of roads, unorganized digging for pipelines, and total indifference to traffic problems.
Addressing the protestors gathered at Navabharath Circle, Ivan D’Souza, the secretary of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee said that bad roads are the products of bad administration.
He also said that greedy contractors and officials have just used around 60 percent of funds allotted for road repair and maintenance and rest of the funds are pocketed.
Praveenchandra Alva, the Congress leader, participated in this protest march till PVS circle. Vehicle drivers in Bejai and Hampankatta also participated in the protest.
Various protests were organized at Yedapadavu Junction at Mijar near Bolechar Bridge at 5:00 p.m. The road was blocked for around half and making the traffic still from 6 pm.
Jaago Mangalore Coordinator Vijayanath Shetty expressed his gratefulness to all the organizations for supporting the protest and also to the police department for maintaining law and order.
The protests included nearly 1km long vehicle rally, music and bhajans.
