Vitala : The Vitla police have arrested a 50-year-old Veda Teacher for allegedly beating a 10-year-old boy at a temple for sitting on a chair meant for chieftains.

On Wednesday, a complaint was filed before the police on Wednesday after information spread on social media of Shyam Sundra Shastry hitting the 10-year-old boy. The boy was among several children coming to Shastry to learn Vedas at Panchalingeshwara Temple. The alleged assault occurred in April.

The police said they traced Shyam Sundara Shastry in Ujire, he appeared before the police around noon. Following questioning, the police arrested him.

He has been charged under Sections 341 (wrongful restraint), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 504 (insult intended to provoke breach of peace).

As all the sections are bailable provisions, the police released him on bail.
