Chamarajanagar: Muthulaxmi, the unfortunate wife of forest brigand and head-hunter Veerappan (who has accounted for over 60 deaths) has been set free, after 3 years of jail under suspicion that she had collaborated with her husband in some criminal cases. The last such case was enquired into and there no proof of her guilt, hence the judge has acquitted her today. She walked free from Parappana Agrahara jail near Bangalore smiling and wanted to go to Chennai to meet her 2 daughters who are studying there. She was arrested in 2008 (Nov26) by police as an accused in 5 cases. On Thursday, she is being released, having been innocent all these years but imprisoned. She was weeping bitterly but in a feeling of relief that justice finally triumphed in her case.
She stated before reporters that she would live in Mettur with her 2 daughters now. It is not clear how she will be compensated for her 3 years of imprisonment.
