Ahmedabad: A final verdict of great significance will be out on Saturday (Feb.19) about Godhra mayhem that rocked Gandhiji’s under BJP CM Narendra Modi. 58 volunteers of BJP had died in Godhra fires in 2002, which gave rise to intense communal riots between Hindus and Muslims. Whether the verdict would provide criminal justice to Hindus is a question raised in this connection
A special court in Sabaramathi Jail of Ahmadabad is giving the final verdict on the mass killings of Godhra. Earlier the Supreme Court had ordered a stay of this sensitive verdict, relating to the death of 58 volunteers in a fire on 27-02-2002 when they were returning from a programme of VHP near Ayodhya Babri monument. The Godhra Muslims were accused of this mass killing around 7-45am.
The TV channels have been asked by Panchmahal DC not to relay shots on Godhra riots and arson. DC Milind Toravane has imposed restrictions on titillating TV shows before the verdict is pronounced. Processions and public protests are banned from Feb.19 to 23. Panchamahal district is facing Sn.144 of IPC and ban on weapons now.
