Bangalore : Renowned theatre and cine personality C.R. Simha (72) died in Bangalore on Friday at a private hospital. He was ailing for sometime from prostate cancer, according to his family sources. He is survived by his wife and son Ritwik Simha.
Simha had acted in over 150 films, including award-wining Sankalpa Samskara, Bara, Chitegoo Chinte, Anuroopa and commercial movies such as Indina Ramayana, Nee Bareda Kadambari, Nee Tanda Kanike Ramapurada Ravana to name a few.
Besides acting in films, he had also directed five Kannada films, including Kakanakote, Simhasana and Ashwamedha. Simha also acted in various tele-serials in Kannada and Hindi. His performance in Malgudi Days, Americadalli Goruru received rich appreciation. Simha essayed the character of Tuglaq in the play written by Girish Karnad for nearly thirty years. He received various awards for his contribution to film and theatre, including Karnataka Nataka Academy, Shankare Gowda Theatre Foundation, Rajyotsava, Central Sangeet Natak Academy. According to Mr. Ritwik Simha, C.R. Simha’s body will be kept at Samsa Auditorium on the premises of Ravindra Kalakshetra for public viewing and the last rites will be performed on Saturday evening.
