Mangalore : A workshop on ‘Reflection on Prevention of Atrocities on Women’ was held at School of Social work, Roshni Nilaya in Mangalore on January 22, Tuesday in association with the NSS unit of Mangalore University and Youth for Nation, Mangalore Chapter.
Speaking as a chief guest on the occasion, CCB Inspector Venkatesh Prasanna stressed the need for co-operation between the public, police and officials in effectively dealing with cases of atrocities on women.
Stating that it was neither the dress nor the behaviour of women that led to rape, the inspector said most cases take place due to cruelty of men. He said the society must accord its due respect to women.
He also referred to the fact that over 50 per cent of rape cases go unreported due to fear by the victim as well as her family members. Women need to be boldly lodge complaints and fight for justice, the inspector said.
Principal of School of Social Work Dr Sophia Fernandes, Dr Rameela Shekhar, Prof Vinitha K and others were present. Students also presented a street play on the occasion.
