Mangalore: Vijay Diwas was observed in Mangalore on December 16, Sunday in commemoration of India’s historic victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war. Brave warriors who laid down their lives for the cause of the nation during the war, were remembered. Wreaths were placed at the War Memorial at Kadri as a mark of respect to the Martyrs.
Several dignitaries including Western Range IGP Pratap Reddy, Mangalore Police Commissioner Manish Kharbikar, Dr Nidarsh Hegde, District Home Guards Commandant, Lions District Governor MB Sadashiv and retd col. Nitteguttu Sharath Bhandary were present and paid respect to the martyrs. Large number of students and teachers and NCC cadets took part in the function.
It may be mentioned here that the Indian Government had conferred the highest honour Param Vir Chakra to three valiant soldiers posthumously and to another Colonel non-posthumously in recognition of their valour during the war.
