Mangalore : The DK district unit of the Karnataka State Revenue Department Village assistants ’ Association organised a day long symbolic protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Mangalore on October 7 demanding regularization of their services.
The village assistants alleged that their repeated pleas to regularize their services have been of no avail and that several village assistants who have breathed their last while being in service were not entitled to any government facilities.
Parameshwar Naik, President of Revenue Department Employees Association who spoke on the occasion said a total of 10,450 posts of village assistants were created in the year 1998 by the government and that the government had with effect from 10-7-2007 had declared their posts in the revenue department as permanent. Sill t he village assist ants are made to work for just Rs 7000 per month making it difficult for them to manage their families in this age.
Shanker Suvarna, District Secretary of Village Accountants Association also spoke. Prakash K Moodbidri, District President of the association, Umesh Puttur, Vice President, Gunaker Hege Belthangady,Raghava Gowda Bantwal, Chandappa Bantwal, Sanjeeva Naika and others were present. A total of 345 village assistants took part in the protest backed by the Village Accountants Association.
