Mangalore: A meeting of several villagers from Ullal TMC limits as well as 13 gram panchayats held here on October 5 decided to vehemently oppose the gas pipeline project of the Gas Authority of India Ltd and Relogistics Infrastructure Limited of RGTIL which is likely to pass through 50 villages in the district.
Action Committee Co-ordinator Ajith Kumar Rai Maladi called upon the people to join hands to fight against the projects which will not only lead to acquisition of agricultural lands but will pose perennial danger to residents of the locality.
MP Nalin Kumar Kateel also voiced his opposition to the project.
Vidya Dinker, social activist said he implementation of the projects would make the region highly polluted and strongly resented the fact that the objections of the villages has not been taken heed of.
MLC Monappa Bhandari, ZP member Santosh Kumar Boliyar were among others present on the occasion.
If RIL plans to lay LNG pipeline of 13.3 MMSCMD (million metric standard cubic meter per day) capacity from Thiruthani terminal point in Tamil Nadu to Mangalore via Bangalore, GAIL had obtained permission to lay pipeline of 16 MMSCMD capacity from Kochi in Kerala to Mangalore.
