Mangalore: Munir Ahmed (48), a Bunder area resident, who was a police informer to two police officers (Gaonkar and Gadadi) had alleged on 30-09-2011 publicly, that Vinay Gaonkar had received Rs.38 lakhs as Hafta (Weekly dues) from him, but paid by cattle transporters, scarp merchants, petrol or diesel adulterators and ganja peddlers to the police.
Munir complained that IP Gaonkar had tortured him physically for telling ACP Ravindra Gadadi about Vinay’s corruption. He had made a writ petition to the court, which asked DGP to investigate the issue.
Munior also contacted HRC, the Lokayukta and Home minister. The then IGP (Western Range) Alok Mohan asked Dy. SP Harischandra to look into the torture case.
Munir refused to attend enquiry 4 times on notice sent to him, as he received threats so as to avoid coming to Mangalore. Munir’s non-cooperation led to closure of investigation.
The complaint was marked as false. HRC and others also did not assist Munir Gaonkar received a clean chit.
