The film relates to mid-80 and has an appeal to modern times. But selection of costumes and living style of characters go back 25 years, and the director has a bother.
The screenplay is tight and actors fit the roles. The director Nagendra Prasad has cleverly got rid of rabble-rousers and taken to youths with responsibility to insert, for aged audiences.
It is real life event that took place in Prakash Nagar near Rajajinagar. Five unemployed youths form the Balaga (group) and go round door to door collecting funds for a Vinayaka Pooja and to earn for themselves. The city corporation elections are approaching and a rowdy (Gurudutt) wants to earn good name by holding Ganesh Pooja, and he clashes with the ‘Danda’ five boys. It is now Dada Vs Dandi 5. The youths put the rowdy (Razor Raja) behind bars. He manages to come out on bail for better cause with a “kidnap of builder” episode thrown in.
Vijay Raghavendra from the Balaga, and Rangayana Raghu as well as Shobhraj from the elders attract notice. There is good support from the other friends in arms.
Meghna Goankar looks alluring in her song items. Music director V.Ashwath sings extremely well in a song. “Inde Heege Chimmuthide”..
The film is harmless and entertaining. Songs are well-written and crooned.
