Mangalore: The Dasara Dolls occupy a place of their own in Well-to-do (rich) homes during Temple Navaratrri Celebrations, and people visit such doll exhibiting localities temples and homes, as in Gowri-Ganesh Puja occasions.
Dolls are exhibited even in Hampi festivals (14th to 16th centuries) and for the last 5 centuries. It is known as Bommai Kolu in Andhra.
In Karnataka, Nammavaru- Mangalurvasi Hale Mysore Vipra Koota( a Brahmin organization) has been holding spectacular Dolls shows on Nellikai Road at Sri Raghavendra Mutt every year, since long.
There is a collection of 800 dolls arranged in a gallery of 9 steps, symbolizing Nine nights of conflict.
The Pattada Bombe tops them all. Various episodes are symbolized in these dolls from Ramayana, Bhagavatha & Dashavatara or Ashta Laxmis. M. S. Gururaj said on Monday as organiser, that the show had become popular.
