Mangalore: The state Government on Wednesday, March28, released an amount of Rs.1.50 crore out of a Rs 5crore allotment earmarked for World Konkani Centre in Shaktinagar in the previous budget for development work in Konkani language and culture.
Centre President Basti Vaman Shenoy secretary Pradeep G. Pai, member G. Anandaraya Shenoy, and former minister Krishna Palemar, CM DV Sadananda Gowda in Bangalore to thank the Government for the munificent grant.
Basti told the CM that the released funds would be spent on digitaliSation of Old Konkani records and literature.
A Konkani language laboratory would be opened soon. Books written in Konkani would be scanned at the rate of 500 pages in an hour, to be uploaded to Wikipedia page, for any reference, Basti added, while talking to reporters.
There are 30 sub-castes with Konkani as their common language. All their literature and songs would be recorded scientifically, Shenoy assured.
