Moodabidre : A grand colorful procession of Artists, Dancers, Instrumental players, Dancing Dolls and scholars, students, women dressed in their best walked through the streets of Moodabidre from 3.30 PM to 5.30 PM to enter the venue of the first world Nudisiri-Virasat Alvas festival for the Inaugural that was held in a specious pendal on top of Vidyagiri on Dec 19, 2013 Thursday here at Moodabidre known as the art and culture center of Karnataka besides being called the Jain Kashi Venerated by Jains all over the country and abroad.
There were 9 stages for Arts and Culture performances being conducted by Alvas Students and Artists from outside in various faculties. The inauguration of such a vast show of arts and culture was done by Dr. D. Veerendra Hegde of Dharmasthala at 6.30 PM. Prior this Inaugural by lighting of lamps and offering of Milk to the flower to arecanut flowers, Dr. Mohan Alva made the welcome speech in which he related the pains taken by 100’s of his disciples who went out of the town and spoke to people of the state inviting them to attend the first Vishwa Nudisiri-Virashat festivals of four days n own being conducted in Moodbidre.
Inaugurating the the first world Language and Heritage convention at Vidyagiri Dr. D.Veerendra Heggade of Dharmasthala spoke about the main role of arts and culture for generations of human beings in India and all over the world stressing the fact that 2 World Wars had taught all humanity on earth about the need to nourish arts and culture in their lives if they have to avoid the third all-decimating Nuclear War. He praised Dr.Alva as a great beacon of light that up hels large numbers of students generations in his colleges to practice various arts and forms of culture as mankind. He was happy to the present at all the previous 18 Nuisiri-Virasat festivals held here, no less than the first combined World Langauage- Heritage that is going on from today onwards up to Dec 22 in winter season.
It may be noted that only yesterday (Dec18) it was Udupi pejavar Mutt Seer, Swami Vishwesha Thirtha taking part in an Agricultural fair in Moodabidre had suggested that men of literature should be carried in palanquins in the town whenever lakhs of people got together . Thus, on Thursday Dr. B.A.Viveka Rai President of all sessions of 19th festival of Arts and culture was found walking to the venue all dignitaries around him, refusing to get in to an old mode of carriage such as a palanquin. Later Dr. Rai stated that he was happy to be walking with Dr. Mohan Alva and a Group of Scholars waking through the streets of Moodabidre town. It was in asuch a small town that a universal form of arts and cultures fair was taking place with deferent forms of language and heritage thrown in.
Minister UT Khader, Abhayachandra Jain, MLA Moidin Bava, Sunil Kumar Karkala, and several ministers and dignitaries attended the opening programme.
Manohar Prasad of Udayavai was the Master of ceremonies.
