Udupi : The Vishwakarma Community(gold/Jewellery makers)happens to be the second largest among Backward Classes, so at least 3 percent reservation in jobs to the members should be provided by state Government according to a demand raised by All India Vishwakarma Mahasabha, headed by K.P. Nanjundi who is also a film producer.
A preparatory meeting of the state level Viahwakarma Jayanthi celebrations due at Mysore on September 17 was held in Udupi on Friday and while talking to the Press, Nanjundi asked the Government to provide also for political representation to his Community, which has a Sizeable population o the coast.
He wanted protection for ornament-makers from police atrocities. He made several other demands as well, which need ratification by his community meetings. These demands will be placed before delegates in a Mysore.
Leaders from 3 parties in state are expected to take part. Alevoor yogish Acharya, U.T. Khader, Rajesh Acharya, and other leaeders were present.
