Udupi: Vishwasada Mane of Shankerpura, a rehabilitation centre for the mentally ill, old and destitute, which has given a fresh lease of life to many of its inmates is hoping that the government would extend aid to Vishwasada Mane to enable it function much more efficiently.
Speaking to reporters, Vishwasada Mane president Pastor Sunil John D’Souza said Vishwasada Mane has presently provided shelter to 215 persons including men, women, children and disabled and mentally ill.
The pastor also explained how many of the inmates of Vishwasada Mane have been sent back home after contacting their family, once they became normal.
The Pastor also introduced five persons, all inmates of Vishwasada Mane who were mentally ill when admitted, but were presently on the path of recovery.
He said the Vishwasada Mane could achieve all this due to donations from kind hearted people and added the house can still function in an efficient way if it receives government help.
On this occasion, he said two doctors from the Government hospital who visited the orphanage to treat the ill, behaved rudely with them and also asked the Vishwasada Mane authorities to abandon all the inmates. Pastor also clarified that Vishwasada Mane was not involved in any illegal activities as alleged by the doctors. He said a complaint has been made to DC with regard to the behavior of the two government doctors.
