Udupi : Vishwesha Tirtha Swami of Paryaya Pejawar Mutt will undergo surgical procedure for hernia at the Kasturba Hospital in Manipal on Sunday. Raghuram Acharya, Dewan of Pejawar Mutt, told on Saturday that the seer will leave for the hernia operation after completing the ‘Maha Pooja’ at the Sri Krishna Mutt around 10 a.m. on Sunday. During Vishwesha Tirtha’s absence, Vishwaprasanna Tirtha, junior seer of Pejawar Mutt, will conduct the “poojas” at the Sri Krishna Mutt, he said.

The 87 year Vishwesha Tirtha had already visited the Kasturba Hospital for medical checkup on Saturday after the “Maha Pooja” at 10 a.m. and returned to the Sri Krishna Mutt at 1 p.m., he said.

Though tradition bars the Paryaya seer from leaving the Car Street during the two-year Paryaya tenure, this was a special case involving the health of the seer, hence he had to leave the Car Street, Mr. Acharya said.
