Mangalore : Visual Media Journalists Association delegation met Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in Bangalore on May 22, Wednesday and has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister requesting for early steps to drop all charges against TV journalist Naveen Soorinje and cameraman Sharan. If Naveen is released on a bail from the High Court, Sharan is still in judicial custody after he was denied bail.
The delegation apprised the chief minister that the two had been to the homestay only to report the incident and were not part of the attackers . It further pointed out that one of the victims of homestay attack Vijaykumar had also made the above fact clear during submission before court during hearing of Soorinje’s bail petition.
The Association drew the attention of the chief minister towards the fact that he too had raised his voice in support of Soorinje, while he was the opposition leader and pointed out that the erstwhile BJP government which had promised to drop charges against the two had however failed to do so.
The memorandum also drew the attention of the CM that the two have been booked under the same charges as those leveled against the homestay attackers.
The Association urged the CM To drop all charges against Soorinje and Sharan and also to take action against police officials responsible for their arrest.
