Mangalore: Making the keen of speech at Town Hall on Tuesday the ABVP state president Dr. B V Vasant Kumar stated that by following Swami Vivekananda’s tenets and morality preached by him around 1900, we can still remove social inequality, corruption in public life, poverty and ignorance of self even after a hundred years.
He was addressing a student community that came in a procession after moving through the streets from Jyothi circle in the city to the Town Hall.
He regretted if we were still in darkness all these years for wan up proper guidance from teachers and elders in the Hindu community when Swami Vivekananda had already given us the guidelines of Hinduism, its principles, history and age-old culture.
Dr. Vasant Kumar dwelt on the prime possession of women in homes, in society and in public life that was pointed out by Swami Vivekananda in his several speeches made a century ago, but we are still using women like toys in advertisement and other activities of commercialism, when we should treat all women with respect and recognizing her divinity as done by Sri Ramakrishna to his own wife Mata Sharada Devi. He added that women should never be subjected to violence or sexual atrocities even in publicity materials like adds.
Dr. Vasant Kumar went on to say that the safety of Indian women at large was in danger in recent days and her disgrace in society could bring about the calamity to Hindu society unless we wake up to the reality and marshal our strength to protect women and respect her existence as a necessity to all men who call themselves Hindus.
Swami Vivekananda dreamt of villages free of cottages but having houses with all felicities in every nook and corner of India long before we had in dependence. Yet we roll in corruption and were do not know where the extra money or wealth produced in the country goes to help which part of the world. We must get rid of the imbalances generated economically in the past 65 or more years through planning, indigenous savings and foreign loans under FDI. This deplorable situation should be remedied to make each one of us to live with dignity and earn sufficiently to have a roof on our heads.
The speaker continued that the last for money has made us blind to the demands of our own people wether in the family or in public life with the result that whatever lessons we had learnt from Swami Vivekananda so long, have become forgotten in a darkness of corruption.
He exhorted the youth of the county to be new patriots and not enemies of the country such as Bangladesh immigrants Naxalites on Western Ghats, terrorist from west coast region who have Bomb factories in Mangalore all of whom need to be uprooted and destroyed if patriotic Hinduism has to survive. He asked the students of ABVP to remain true to their country all their lives.
Prof. S Ganesh Rao president of Karavali group of educational institutions presiding on the occasion told the students to be brave and maintain their scholarship and fight for liberty of India in times of crisis. He asked them to follow the leadership of A B Vajpayee (X PM) and X president APJ Abdul Kalam, two great souls living in the country today and continue to aspire for great goals like them.

Large crowds of students from all colleges in city had come to Town hall shouting slogans of Jai-Jai cars to Swami Vivekananda on way from Jyothi circle before the ‘Vivekotsava-2014, celebrations.
