Mangalore : Water levels in various rivers of DK and Udupi districts, has seen a sharp rise due to incessant rains since the past two years.
The met department has said 175 mm rainfall may occur in the next 48 hours across the coastal belt. Fishermen have also been asked against venturing into sea for fishing as the sea was all likely to be rough. The water level of Netravathi was 4.9 meters in Bantwal and 22.5 meter in Uppinangady.
There have been several instances of trees getting uprooted due to heavy rains. In Sullia too there is incessant rains, At leat four houses were damaged at Someshwar, Ichlampady and Amblamogaru. Holiday has been declared for schools across Sullia where Kumardhana and Payaswini rivers are overflowing.
At Girigudde in Jakribettu a retaining wall of MSEZ has collapsed on Bantwal-Kadur NH. A huge tree has also uprooted.
Udupi district recorded an overall rainfall of 99.03 mm on Wednesday. In Karkala taluk, heavy wind coupled with rainfall has caused damages to houses, and also to agricultural fields. The house belonging to Vijayalaxmi Hegde was damaged when a tree fell on it in Kasaba village. The Theerthotti Bridge connecting Ajekaru and Udupi is inundated. Heavy rains that lashed over parts of Kundapur Taluk on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning has caused widespread damage to property. Several low lying area are inundated.
