Mangalore : The Mangalore City Corporation held its council meeting at MCC council Hall on April 26, Thursday. Mayor Gulzar Banu chaired the meeting.
Speaking on the drainage system, Former Mayor Shankar Bhat said that city’s drainage facility is not proper; hence the MCC must give importance for it because rainy season is nearing.
When Corporator Sudhir Shetty commented on the statement given by Former MLA Vijay Kumar Shetty at the press meet that MCC is responsible for water problem has no meaning.
In reply, MCC Commissioner Harish Kumar said that the MCC has implementation process of water pipeline and since there is confusion in land acquisition, the matter will be discussed in the presence of officials and problem will be solved, he said.
Sudhir Shetty also said that since there was minor earth quakes occurred in various parts of Karnataka, CM DV Sadananda Gowda had cancelled his Japan visit, but in spite of having so many problems regarding the Mayoral post, present Mayor Gulzar Banu went to Dubai to receive the award.
Opposition leader Harinath Bondel, said that Mangalore had water and the concerned officials have worked to reduce it.
He also said that Thumbe has the dam constructed for MRPL purpose, and further SEZ will also establish a dam and in such case we will have to drink petrol and diesel from MRPL. He urged the Mayor to verify before giving permission to SEZ dam.
Deepak Poojary said that six power project established at Thumbe must be handed over to MCC.
Commissioner said that MRPL have problem and has to finish the assignment of the company and there is requirement of water, hence water must be given, he said.
Speaking on the Health department report of Bunder area, Mayor said that department officer did not submit the report, inspite of being asked long back.
