Mangaluru : Chief minister Basavaraj Bommai in his maiden budget on Friday announced some special schemes to coastal region that the Government will take necessary steps to convince Centre to relax Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) norms in order to promote eco-tourism in the coastal areas.
State-of-the-art fishing Harbour at Majali, Uttara Kannada District at an estimated cost of Rs 250 crore with the financial assistance from the Centre.
A research centre for “Arebhashe” in Mangaluru University. Kannada Bhavana to be constructed in the name of Kayyara Kinhanna Rai at Kasaragod.
Sri Narayana Guru Residential School to be started -one each in the districts of Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada and Shivamogga.
Action taken for implementation of works in the first stage of Paschimavahini project by constructing vented dams across west flowing rivers at an estimated cost of Rs 500 crore.
Master plan approved with an outlay of Rs 1,500 crore under Khar land scheme in order to prevent back surge of salt water due to high tides and flood in the rivers of the coast. Presently works are being implemented under this scheme in Uttara Kannada district. During the current year it will be implemented in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts also.
