Mangalore: A memorial built at the gorge in Bajpe where a Boeing aircraft crashed on May 22 killing 158 travellers, and a memorial was subsequently erected in July. This memorial to the horror of officials and people moving around the new Kenjaru Terminal airport, was found demolished by unknown miscreants on Tuesday (Oct. 5, 2010) in a matter of months.
The motive could not be established and there was no inkling that such an action would be taken by a gang or a single rowdy. It was not a natural happening in rains and winds.
Six black granite slabs with etched lists of dead passengers had been installed and unveiled on July 27 on an elevated platform at the crash site. There was no protective shield to this memorial, hence the damage struck all of a sudden today.
