Mangaluru: “Light vehicles should be allowed to pass through Shiradi Ghat during the second phase of concretisation and the narrow curves should be widened for the free passing of the vehicles during the construction work,” said district in-charge Minister Ramanath Rai.
In a meeting held at DC office on Tuesday, he said that Deputy Commissioner should inspect the spot and he should take the measures for the free flow of the traffic.
“There is a strong objection to close the Shiradi Ghat during the construction work. If the ghat is closed then the traffic pressure on Charmadi Ghat will be increased drastically and the vehicles have to face severe problems due to it. DC should meet Chief Engineer of NHAI and should discuss the matter with him,” he said.
He further said that open drainage can be closed to widen the road thus the complete closure of the Shiradi Ghat can be avoided.
Deputy Commissioner K G Jagadeesh suggested opening temporary medical camps on the sides of the Shiradi Ghat during the construction process to treat the injured people on time. He ordered NHAI and health department officials to identify the places for the camp.
NHAU Engineer Ramesh said that the second phase of concretisation work will be commenced from November 15 and the essential materials will be brought to the sight well in advance.
ADC Kumar, SP Bhushan G Borase, DHO Dr Ramakrishna and others were present.
