Puttur : It is now almost certain that former Puttur MLA Shakuntala Shetty would get a ticket to contest from Puttur constituency from the Congress. Her visit to the residence of her political mentor Ram Bhat has also given room for speculations.
It is believed that former Udupi MP Vinaykumar Sorake had supported her candidature and even Oscar preferred her as it was he who brought Shetty to the Congress.
It may be recalled here that Shetty who was the face of the BJP in Puttur, had rebelled against the party which denied her a ticket last time. She had contested under the banner of Swabhimani Vedike of her mentor, but had to face defeat at the hands of Mallika Prasad of the BJP.
Later on, Shetty is learnt to have knocked at the doors of both the JD(S) and the KJP bit was unsuccessful and finally decided to join the Congress no sooner the assembly elections were announced.
It is said that her candidature, though it is yet to be officially announced, has irked the Puttur Block Congress President Kavu Hemanath Shetty who is also one of the aspirants and had been camping in Delhi since some time.
