Mumbai: Wing Commander Darryl Harold Castelino, who lost his life in a chopper crash during the rescue mission of stranded pilgrims at Uttarakhand, was laid to rest at the St Antony’s Church at Vakola, Santacruz East on June 20. Thousands had gathered to pay their last respects to the departed wing commander who hails from Kinnigoli near Mangalore.
Parish priest Fr Siraj Pinto led the prayers.
Leena Castelino, the mother of the deceased, wife Jyoti, son Ethan, daughter Angelina, sisters Sheryl and Meryl and other family members were overcome by grief and inconsolable.
Air force personnel, MLA Gopal C Shetty,Mumbai Billavara Association President L V Amin, city police commissioner Satyapal Singh and others were present.
The mortal remains were taken in an armed forces vehicle from the residence of Darryl to the Church.
