Mysore : A housewife, depressed over her friend refusing to pay back a loan availed through her from a private financier, committed suicide by hanging self at her residence at Vinayaka Nagar (Paduvarahalli) in city this morning.
The unfortunate victim has been identified as Nethravathi (22), wife of Siddegowda and a resident of Vinayaka Nagar in city.
It is reported that Nethravathi had helped her friend Nethra Prathap who was in financial crisis, by availing loans from various organisations and Self Help Groups (SHGs) to the tune of about Rs. 7 lakh.
But, Nethra Prathap, who took money from Nethravathi, failed to pay back either the money or the interest amount, following which those who had given loans began pestering Nethravathi by demanding for repayment of the loans.
Nethra Prathap is said to have threatened to commit suicide when Nethravathi asked for the money, following which Nethravathi informed her family members and some elders of the locality.
The local leaders then held a meeting with Nethravathi and Nethra Prathap during which Nethra Prathap denied to have taken any money from Nethravathi.
The leaders and those who had given loans then asked Nethravathi to take time and pay the money. Depressed over the issue, Nethravathi hanged herself to a ceiling fan at her residence at about 7.30 am after her husband left for work. She had sent her 8-year-old son outside before hanging herself.
Jayalakshmipuram Police, who rushed to the spot on receiving information, removed the body and sent it to MMC&RI mortuary for post mortem, besides registering a case. A three-page death note was also recovered by the Police and the details in the death note are awaited.
